Before you start
This atlas is for studying. It is not a clinical tool: do not use it for diagnosis or to decide treatment. Parts of the content are produced with AI assistance and checked with a documented process, but it may contain errors.
Accessibility
Target WCAG 2.2 level AA: how we test it, known limits and how to report problems.
Target
The atlas aims to conform to WCAG 2.2 level AA. We do not claim conformance yet: the tests are being built together with the site.
What we already do
- Colour contrast checked automatically on every build, in the light and the dark theme.
- Full keyboard navigation, a “Skip to content” link and a clearly visible focus indicator.
- The current page in the navigation is shown by shape and text too, not by colour alone.
- Touch targets of at least 44 × 44 pixels in the main navigation.
- Text resizes to 200%, the “reduce motion” preference is respected, light and dark themes.
- The Atkinson Hyperlegible Next typeface, designed for legibility.
Coming next
- Automated axe tests on every page template, at five screen widths and in both themes.
- Keyboard tests, including focus never hidden behind sticky bars.
- A manual screen-reader checklist (VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA).
Known limits
- Search, the theme switch and collapsible sections need JavaScript; without it, all content remains readable.
- Teaching images, when they arrive, will have alt text and captions; annotations will have a text equivalent.
